The WPHS nomination for Teacher of the Month is Kelly Sturgeon.  Kelly holds many positions and responsibilities within the school’s academic and athletic departments.  She continues to grow her professional learning and skill set. Her service to the students and staff of WPHS is invaluable.

Kelly is a graduate White Pine High School and Cottey College in Missouri.  She recently earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Governors University.  While doing so, she chaired our English Department, taught AP English, served as a class, Cheer, and Yearbook Advisor, and served on the school and district Leadership Teams.

Now that she has her master's degree, Kelly has added the role of Athletic Director to her list of duties.  She has done an enormous amount of “on the job training,”  and continues to expand her knowledge and vision for the department.

As a classroom teacher, Kelly’s students love and respect her--as she does them.  She fosters many students’ love of writing and reading, and for those not “loving it,” she is able to motivate them to take all they can from the opportunities to read and write.  She is a master of building relationships and getting students the support they need to be successful.

As a leader among staff, Kelly’s thoughts and opinions are sought by both administration and fellow teachers.  She is an active member of the Leadership Team and often volunteers to present ideas and strategies to the whole staff.  She is a fierce defender and advocate of the decisions and work done by the Leadership Team.

The value of one such as Kelly Sturgeon is beyond measure. We, at WPHS, are proud to present to the Board of Trustees and Ely Lions Club, Mrs. Kelly Sturgeon, WPHS Teacher of the Month.
